The board is the heart of an installation; every mistake inside it propagates through the whole building. A good board means correctly calculated load and fault levels, discrimination between protective devices, proper busbar clearances, adequate ventilation, and wiring that is still readable a decade later. I design, assemble and install distribution boards, control panels, motor control centres and medium-voltage switchgear.

Scope of work

  • Main and sub distribution boards for residential, commercial and industrial buildings
  • Control panels, motor control centres and soft starters
  • Medium-voltage panels and distribution substations up to 20 kV
  • Capacitor banks and power factor correction
  • Generator changeover panels and standby supply systems
  • Pump, booster set and plant room control panels
  • Street and grounds lighting panels with astronomical timing
  • Prospective short-circuit calculation and breaker breaking-capacity selection
  • Protective discrimination and relay setting
  • Refurbishing and upgrading ageing boards

Standards and equipment

  • 01 Designed to IEC 61439 for low-voltage assemblies
  • 02 Prospective fault current calculated and breaking capacity selected above it
  • 03 Clearance and creepage distances observed between busbars and enclosure
  • 04 Every conductor numbered and ferruled
  • 05 Single-line diagram, control schematic and parts list handed over
  • 06 Insulation, functional and phase-sequence testing before energising
  • 07 Enclosure IP rating chosen for the location and for Gilan humidity

Breaking capacity, not just amps

A breaker with the right amperage but a breaking capacity below the site fault current will rupture at the moment it matters. Fault-level calculation is part of every board design.

Heat, the quiet killer

Loose terminations and poor ventilation cook a board slowly. Connections go up to a specified torque with a torque wrench, and fans and filters are provided where the load calls for it.

Still readable in ten years

Every wire numbered, every device labelled, and the drawing fixed inside the door. That is the difference between a twenty-minute repair and a day of guessing.

What drives the cost

There is no fixed price on this page, because without seeing the site any number is a guess. These are the things that set the estimate:

  • Rating, voltage level and the number of outgoing ways
  • Brand of breakers and protective devices
  • Enclosure type (floor standing, wall mounted or flush) and IP rating
  • How complex the control circuit is, and whether a PLC is involved
  • Capacitor bank, changeover or monitoring requirements

Frequently asked

What makes a switchboard properly built?

Three things: calculating the prospective fault current and choosing breakers rated above it, discrimination between the main device and the outgoing ways, and respecting clearances and ventilation. Beyond that, numbered conductors and the drawing fixed inside the door, which is what makes a repair years later take twenty minutes instead of a day.

Contact

Describe the job and I will take it from there

One short call is usually enough to establish what the work is, how long it takes and roughly what it costs.

Call for an accurate estimate. If I am on a job and miss the call, I ring back as soon as I am off the ladder.
