Bandar Anzali is a fair drive from Gurab Zarmikh and is not part of my daily area. I take Anzali work by arrangement, usually as planned jobs: wiring, boards, cameras and alarms, rather than quick emergency repairs.

What sets electrics in Anzali apart from the rest of Gilan is the salt air. Salt settles with the moisture on every metal surface and eats screws, terminals, light fittings and boxes at a rate you never see in Soumeh Sara. An outdoor light that lasts ten years inland sometimes fails to see out two winters by the shore.

Many of Anzali’s villas and seaside units are used only part of the year or let out. Owners are often far away and want to know that the power is on, nobody has got in and no water is leaking. Cameras, alarms and remote monitoring are asked for here more than anywhere else I work.

How a booking works

  1. 01 I cover Anzali by arrangement. It is a long drive from Gurab Zarmikh, and I plan jobs there on set days.
  2. 02 Describe the job on WhatsApp first and send photos of the board, the mounting position and the existing equipment, so I can source kit suited to sea air in advance.
  3. 03 For an empty villa, we arrange the visit for when you, or someone with the keys, can be there.
  4. 04 For cameras and alarms, a first visit is needed for positioning and checking mobile signal, and the written estimate follows.
  5. 05 For urgent breakdowns in Anzali, a local electrician will usually get there sooner; I say so honestly.

Salt air and corrosion: why kit by the sea fails early

Sea salt settles with the moisture on terminals, screws and metal housings and forms a conductive, corrosive film. The result is screws that rust solid, terminations that loosen and run hot, and light fittings that fill with water. An RCD that trips for no obvious reason in Anzali is often a sign of exactly this surface leakage in an outdoor box.

For outdoor equipment and anything near the shore I use IP65 or IP66 enclosures and fittings, stainless steel screws and brackets, sealed cable glands and UV stable plastic housings. Outdoor terminations are protected with dielectric grease to keep moisture and salt off the metal.

  • Ordinary stainless steel still stains by the sea; the points closest to the water need a better grade
  • Every unused entry in a box should be closed with a gland or blanking plug
  • Open outdoor boxes once a year and check the terminations

Empty villas: cameras, alarms and remote monitoring

A villa that stands empty for months needs a system that works with nobody there and reports anything that happens: a break-in, a power cut, a water leak or an unusual temperature. Cameras alone are not enough, because nobody watches the footage every day. An alarm that alerts your phone, and cameras you can look through after the alert, make sense together.

In these villas I put the recorder and router on a UPS so recording and alerts continue through a power cut. The alarm has its own SIM and standby battery, and reports by call or SMS if the internet is down. A leak sensor under the water heater and washing machine costs little and prevents expensive damage.

Lightning on the coast

Buildings by the shore, especially villas taller than their surroundings, are exposed to lightning in the autumn and winter storms. Even a strike that does not hit the building sends surges in through the power line, camera cables or aerial leads and burns out electronics.

In Anzali I almost always recommend a surge protective device at the board incomer, and I fit separate protection on outdoor camera network cables. All of this depends on a measured earth; in sandy soil near the shore, earth resistance is sometimes higher than people expect and needs checking.

Shops and commercial units near the port and the Free Zone

Shops around the port, the bazaar and the Free Zone usually carry a heavy load on a small board: air conditioning, display fridges, LED signs and plenty of window lighting. Being near the sea also means busbars and terminals oxidise sooner, and loosened terminations run hot.

For a shop I install the board in a closed, sealed enclosure in a sensible position, separate the fridge and till circuits from the lighting, and add surge protection. If cameras and an alarm are needed too, their wiring is planned at the same stage.

Rental units: electrics a guest cannot easily break

Villas and flats let on short stays get a new guest every week who does not know the house’s electrics. Several heavy appliances go on at once, the main switch trips and the owner gets a call in another city.

In these units I split the circuits so the air conditioning, water heater and kitchen are separate and one fault does not black out the whole unit. A labelled board with a plain guide beside it, and if wanted a power failure alert to the owner’s phone, removes most of those calls.

Common questions about work in Bandar Anzali

Do you work in Bandar Anzali?

Yes, by arrangement and as planned work. Anzali is a long drive from Gurab Zarmikh, so for a quick emergency repair a local electrician is the faster option. For wiring, boards, cameras and alarms, we agree a date together.

The garden lights at our seaside villa fail every year. What can we do?

The usual cause is fittings with a low IP rating, ordinary steel screws and brackets, and cable entries without glands. IP65 or IP66 fittings with robust housings, stainless brackets, sealed glands and dielectric grease on the terminations last far longer. The cost depends mostly on the number of lights, the cable runs and the grade of fitting you choose.

Our villa is empty most of the year. What system do you recommend?

An alarm that alerts your phone, a few cameras covering the entrances, and monitoring for power loss and water leaks. The recorder and router run on a UPS, and the alarm has its own SIM so it still reports if the internet goes down. I check operator signal on site before choosing equipment.

The RCD in our villa trips for no reason. Is it faulty?

The device itself is rarely at fault. By the sea, the usual cause is leakage in an outdoor box or fitting that has taken in salt and moisture. Insulation testing circuit by circuit finds the culprit. Removing the RCD is not the answer; it is doing exactly its job.

We have a shop near the port and the board gets hot. Is that dangerous?

Yes, it needs looking at. Heat usually comes from a loose or oxidised connection, or from load above the rating of the breaker and cable. A thermal camera or current measurements find the hot spot. By the sea, replacing the board with a closed enclosure and torquing the terminations is usually part of the fix.

What do cameras and an alarm for a villa cost?

It depends on the number of cameras and sensors, cable lengths, whether a UPS and SIM router are needed, equipment grade and how long footage must be kept. In Anzali, corrosion resistant housings and brackets add a little, but they prevent early replacement. After a visit I give a written estimate.

For a rental unit, can I find out remotely if the power has gone off?

Yes. A small module with a battery or SIM reports power loss and restoration to your phone, and can report temperature and water leaks at the same time. It can be fitted on its own or alongside an alarm, in or near the board.
