The brief
A shop on a bazaar row with two display fridges, an air conditioner and window lighting, all fed from one breaker and several extension leads. The main breaker tripped several times on hot days and the incoming cable at the board was discoloured and hot. The insurer had also asked about the shop’s electrics for renewal.
How it was done
- 01 Real load current measured at peak and the supply rating checked
- 02 Damaged incoming cable replaced and the meter connections re-made
- 03 New board built with a separate circuit for each fridge, the air conditioner, lighting and sockets
- 04 Two copper earth rods driven in the back alley with neighbours’ agreement, with an inspection box
- 05 Permanent extension leads removed and fixed sockets installed behind the fridges
- 06 Written report with earth and insulation test results handed over for the insurance file
The outcome
The main breaker no longer trips on hot days and the incoming cable runs at normal temperature. The test report went to the owner for the insurance renewal.
