The brief
An old house in the streets near Sabzeh Meydan that tripped every time the electric water heater came on, with a burnt-out kitchen socket. The wiring was decades old, the insulation had gone brittle and there was no earth conductor anywhere in the building. The family were about to refit the kitchen and wanted the electrics settled before any tiling.
How it was done
- 01 Survey and insulation test of the existing circuits to decide what could be kept
- 02 Sound conduit reused on the first floor, and a neat surface route in trunking designed for the ground floor
- 03 Circuits separated: kitchen, water heater, air conditioners and each floor’s lighting on their own breakers
- 04 Three copper-bonded earth rods driven in the yard instead of a deep pit, given the high water table
- 05 New board fitted with RCD, surge protection and full labelling
- 06 Insulation test, earth resistance measurement and RCD trip-time test before handover
The outcome
The water heater and air conditioning now run together without tripping. A circuit chart and the test result sheet went to the family, and the kitchen tiling went ahead with the wiring settled.
