The brief
A villa near the shore whose owner lived in another city and spent only a few weeks a year there. There had been one break-in, and on another occasion a water heater leak had damaged the floor and walls while nobody was there. The previous cameras were on ordinary steel brackets, and after two winters the housings and brackets had rusted.
How it was done
- 01 Signal from two operators surveyed on site, with separate SIMs chosen for the alarm and the router
- 02 Magnetic contacts on reachable doors and windows and PIRs inside, with internal and external sirens
- 03 Outdoor cameras in robust housings on stainless steel brackets and screws, with sealed, glanded junction boxes
- 04 Dielectric grease on outdoor terminations and surge protection on outdoor network cables
- 05 Recorder and router on a UPS, in a closed cupboard away from the entrance
- 06 Leak sensors under the water heater and washing machine, and a power failure module, all reporting through the alarm
- 07 Every alert tested end to end with the owner on the phone, and all default passwords changed
The outcome
The owner can check on the villa from anywhere and gets intrusion, leak and power failure alerts on his phone. During a long winter power cut, the UPS kept recording and alerts going. At the next annual service, the brackets and housings showed no rust.
